When Life Gives You Demons by Jennifer Honeybourn (Review)

A standalone, When Life Gives You Demons makes light of demon possession, and its kinda funny. An everyday teenager and... well... an exorcist, Shelby is fed up. Her priest-uncle is constantly on her back about her chants and holy water and her grades are slipping. All the while, her Mom has disappeared and Shelby blames herself. As time goes by. demon possessions starts to increase in town, and its up to Shelby to fix it, all the while trying to balance her love life and her school work.
This was a peppier exorcist story. It was hilariously upbeat for content that is usually used in horror movies. I found that it was fairly entertaining in a morbid way. It was a moderately short story, but if you're looking for a weekend binge read, When Life Gives You Demons will fill that role easily. It was witty, lighthearted and oddly unique (since its a YA about exorcists (not exactly common)). Shelby was an okay character. Nothing extremely special, but she did the job of a terrible and kinda likeable main character. As for the romance, it was short but sweet. It won't be winning any awards but I had fun reading it. All in all, I liked it and I give When Life Gives You Demons the rating of FOUR STARS OUT OF FIVE!!!
