Evolution: ANGEL (The Evolution #1) by Starla Huchton (Review)

  Evolution: ANGEL follows the story of a young girl named Candace as she goes into a super hero program called ANGEL. In ANGEL she starts coming into her powers as tension rises socially. What is her power? Water. She has the super power of water bending. *Warning* Mature content in this novel.
   I found myself conflicted with this novel. I both loved it and hated it. I found it addicting yet on the weaker side when it came to plot. I was very annoyed by the lack of clear direction and purpose to the novel. I found that the story felt like it was being written with no real end goal in mind; yet at the same time I kept wanting to continue to read it. It was a very conflicting feeling.
  I felt the tension of attraction between the characters was very well done. I found it to be the highlight of the entire novel. I also love the entire concept of super heroes, and super powers. I found Candace's power over water to be cool and pretty epic. She reminded me of Katara from Avatar The Last Air Bender, with her ability to bend water, which is very cool.
    Ultimately, I'm on the wire with this book. I give Evolution: ANGEL THREE OUT OF FIVE STARS!

 

Of Shadow and Stone by Michelle Muto (Review)

     This book starts with some pretty dark undertones right from the get-go, Of Shadow and Stone is a very interesting novel with a magical other world of sorts containing were-wolves, vampires, magicians and living gargoyles. In the story, the two main characters Kate and Ian are both famous people who are sucked into this dangerous world with the responsibility to stop the gargoyles from killing humans for small crimes like identity theft and purse snatching, all the while as there attraction for each other grows.
    I very much enjoyed the storytelling after the first little bit in the beginning that felt almost unnecessary to the plot. I loved the chemistry between the two romantic leads, they were very well paired. There was definitely room for improvement when it came to character development because there was many questions left unanswered about most to all of the characters in the story. I give Of Shadow and Stone by Michelle Muto THREE OF FIVE STARS!

Greta and the Glass Kingdom (Mylena Chronicles #2) by Chloe Jacobs (Review)

   After Greta's confrontation with the demon Agramon, and the black magic of the portal, Greta is still paying the consequences. The magic seems to not want to leaver her alone, and wants to destroy everything and everyone around her. To save the world Greta takes a trip to the fairy's Glass Kingdom.
    There was definitely a choice made by the author in this novel that was a terrible idea. For the sake of spoilers, I will not tell you what happens, but a hint would be this sentiment we all seem to share. We all seem to hate when a favorite primary character is practically completely removed from the majority of the of the story. When this event occurred, I was both confused and angry to a degree. I almost threw the book.
     The positive sides of this novel would definitely be the kick-butt-ness of the main character that was present in the previous book Greta and the Goblin King. In addition, the plot twist that occures in the novels was very unexpected and riveting. I give Greta and the Glass Kingdom THREE STARS OUT OF FIVE!

The Hunt (The Hunt #1) by Andrew Fukuda (review)

     I simply hate it when a book does not deliver what its blurb and cover offers. In the case of The Hunt, the whole thing is a lie. The blurb and title tell you about a hunt, a hunt where vampires hunt the last of the humans as they fight to survive. Knowing that, you’d expect… you know, the actual hunt taking place in the book… kinda being the whole story because of the cover and blurb depicts. Well, it’s a lie. Until the last few pages, the entire book is the time before the hunt. The politics and the wait up to the hunt. There was action and cool moments, don’t get me wrong, but I kept waiting for the hunt to start. I was so very disappointed with its lack of delivery. I was impressed by the concept of a human living and hiding amongst vampires, and the character Gene is very complex and believable.

 All in all, this was an okay book that was not properly advertised. I don’t really recommend it, but I don’t think this book was a nightmare. I give it a middle rating of three stars. 

Entangled by Amy Rose Capetta (review)

I've been kinda in a futuristic space craze since Guardians of the Galaxy came out, so this book looked super special and exciting to me. It started off with a really intense guitar show. To me, it was doing well so far. I love the personality of Cadence a.k.a Cade, the main character. She is tough and determined. She is very intense and intelligence. She is the epitome of resilience. The book started off interesting, and with so much opportunity for greatness. It could have been an epic action novel with a kick butt heroine, or it could have been a lovely soul mate story about how love stretches the universe. It failed on both fronts. Although it had moments, the book seemed to have little to no direction to the story. It was a hopeful read. I kept waiting for it to really take off, and I was disappointed. Don't get me wrong, this book was still semi interesting and it was not a nightmare read by far, but when I shut the book I felt one word. Bleh. It was a bleh book. I believe reactions can definitely differ because it was so in the middle. So its up to you if you should read it.  I don't recommend it if you want to read the best book ever, but if you just want to read and your not picky, have at it. I give it three stars.

Unseen by Lauren Stewart (Review)

      In this world the Vampires, werewolves, Demons, Angels, Oracles and other supernatural rule over humans. Human are discriminated against, abused, and killed regularly by these creatures. This book is increasingly violent, getting more and more violent from the beginning to the end. Unseen is well written, but has inappropriate content. So I would label this book with an explicit warning to all potential readers. It is action packed, but most of the action takes place around the main character, she herself is not a very kick-butt heroine. Unseen is not an amazing novel. Its not something I would go raving about to others, but in contradiction to that, it was not a terrible story. Lauren has a very prominent voice, and tells the story fairly smoothly. I cant in my right mind recommend this book due to the explicit content, but I will give it an honest review that goes with my reading experience. It was just okay, so I will give it three stars. 

Phantom by Laura DeLuca (Review)

    Ooooooh, a book about a high school version of Phantom of the Opera. That’s perfect for me. I love Phantom of the Opera with a passion. I know every line and song lyric off by heart, and that leads up to the first thing that stuck out at me while reading this novel. The song lyrics used in this book are different from my knowledge of Phantom of the Opera, very disorienting and it throws me out of the story. It might have been done for legal purposes, but still made the reading experience less than optimal. This book is a suspense thriller, but still even knowing that, I kind of found disturbing with the use of serial killers, and Wicka (a.k.a witch craft). Good concept, bad moral standing, which for some is not a big deal, but for me it sours the entire reading experience. In the end, it was only okay. I give it three stars.

Beautiful Oblivion by Jamie McGuire (Review)

     I was so excited about this book, being a huge fan of Beautiful Disaster by Jamie McGuire... but after reading it I was really confused. This.This book gives me so many mixed emotions. I believe as a stand-alone book it could be a very good book, but in the shadow of beautiful disaster, it falls short. So reading it, I was expecting plot twists left and right, what I got was maybe one plot twist in all. And again, unlike Beautiful Disaster, there was little to none action in the story. In addition, the main conflict is not very well defined or presented. Needless to say I was more than a little disappointed. On the flipside, the book hade very lovable and three dimensional characters like Camille and Trenton (the main romantic characters). I also enjoy the interesting backdrop with the romance of Travis and Abby from Beautiful Disaster. Very well tied in if I do say so myself. So all in all, I give this book three stars. 

The Vampire Stalker by Allison van Diepen (Review)

Interesting in theory,the idea that your favorite character in a novel would come to life and fall in love with you, sounds amazing! But in a real story, is not as good a story as it sounds. At least not in The Vampire Stalker. Don't get me wrong, its not a terrible read. But its definitely not one of my favorites. The very theory of the book is very interesting, and the book itself had many good theories and ideas, but was nothing deeply impacting. Nothing earth shattering. As teen novels go, its pretty run of the mill. The characters are fairly well developed but the story itself is not deep whatsoever. Alexander Banks is an interesting and brooding character, and Amy is the run of the mill teenage fan girl. Well, a teenage fan girl that's wildest dream comes true. All in all, I will only give it three stars.
