The Gilded Wolves (The Gilded Wolves #1) by Roshani Chokshi (Review)

       Set in a magical France, a series of uniquely qualified individuals take on the heist of a century. The Gilded Wolves tell a story about this special group of thieves is made up of people who all come with their own important motives and skill sets. The leader is a rejected heir to one of the most powerful families in the world, trying to get his future back, the chemist is a broken girl trying to make some money for her sister after fleeing prison, the historian is a revolutionist who wants to be respected by his peers, and the others run distractions with their own separate goals and plans.  

      I found this book moderate. I think many people could read it and fall absolutely head over heals for it, but I personally found that it was just missing a little something. I'm not sure what, but the spark just wasn't there for me. Maybe it was because the book didn't really go deeper or tie in the pasts and motives of almost all the cool characters, so none of them had a satisfying character arc. Yah, all I feel about The Gilded Wolves is that it has all the ingrediants of a great book, but for some reason the taste did not blow me away. Maybe it was an editor thing, because I've loved Roshani's other works, but somthing about this book just fell short of making me a huge fan. All in all, I give The Gilded Wolves the rating of FOUR STARS OUT OF FIVE!!!

Star-Touched Stories (The Star-Touched Queen #2.5) by Roshani Chokshi (Review)

      A compilation of mid-sized short stories about the characters in The Star-Touched Queen and A Crown of Wishes, either continuing their stories or going back in time and telling stories from before the events of the novel. My favourite story is the first one, Death and Night. It gives much wanted context from what happened before the events of The Star-Touched Queen. It was a sweet and incredibly magical romance that warmed my heart and re-invigorated my love for the characters. This book in a final toe dip in this incredibly magical world for all of the fans who miss it.

        I loved this short story compilation. Before this point, I hadn't had a very good experience with short story compilations, finding them unpleasant, boring and disrespectful to the original series; but Star-Touched Stories felt really well done and honouring to the stories it is based off of. I found I sincerely enjoyed the short stories and felt refreshed by reading it. I was left wanting to go back to the original series and re-experience it. Anyway, I really enjoyed Star-Touched Stories and I give it the star rating of FIVE OUT OF FIVE STARS!!!

A Crown of Wishes (The Star-Touched Queen #2) by Roshani Chokshi (Review)

      The second installment in the Star-Touched Queen series, A Crown of Wishes was a joy to read. It takes place in the same universe as the first novel in the series, but it's plot is almost completely independent and could totally be read all on its own. It's a story of romance and magic, staring a hardened warrior princess and a witty and sly enemy prince. They are both thrown into a magic competition together to wish a single wish. Those wishes are something they both desperately want and will do anything to get, including work together. As tension rises and danger grows, they will learn to depend on each other to win, or die trying to go at it alone.

       Magical in a different way then most other stories, A Crown of Wishes takes more of an Arabic air to it then anything else. With creatures that were all new to me and a mythos I was completely unfamiliar with, it was truly quite a treat. It was also quite great to read a novel that could be in a series yet stand completely on it's own. It was not reliant on any past plot building to be a good story and experience all on it's own. The main characters were a blast to read about and were very well developed with their unique strengths and flaws. All in all, I really enjoyed the book and give it the rating of FIVE OUT OT FIVE STARS!
